On Saturday, Sept. 19, CNE hosted 23 volunteers as part of the Evanston Day of Caring communitywide work day. From 8-11:30 a.m., our volunteers completed a number of projects such as creating donation boxes for our book drive and delivering them to donation sites; cleaning and organizing the toys in our child care room; sorting books, diapers and clothes in our socialization room; and sprucing up our outdoor space by weeding and landscaping.
The second annual Evanston Day of Caring, facilitated by United Way of Metropolitan Chicago, aimed to help local residents give back to and get connected with nonprofits. The event brought together more than 300 volunteers across 22 volunteer sites in Evanston.
Volunteers were provided with a free goodie bag and T-Shirt, and a post-event celebration was held from noon-2 p.m. for all volunteers at Northwestern University’s Ryan Field. The event was co-sponsored by the City of Evanston, Northwestern University, Rotary International, NorthShore University HealthSystem and First Bank & Trust.
